Understanding Botanical Wellness

Botanical Product and Use Questions

Q1.  What are botanicals?

Botanicals are plant-based ingredients, including herbs, roots, leaves, and extracts, used to support the body’s natural systems and overall wellness.

Q2.  How are your botanicals different from pharmaceutical products?

Botanicals are typically a holistic approach to treating both acute and chronic conditions, rather than a single mechanism or symptom.  Botanicals support long-term regulation and balance and can also target a single symptom. They’re often used as part of a holistic wellness approach.

Q3.  How do I know which product is right for me?

Choosing a botanical depends on your wellness goals, lifestyle, and individual needs. Many people start with system-focused support and adjust based on their body's response.

Q4. How should I take your products?

Directions vary by product and formulation. Always follow the usage instructions provided and consult a professional if you’re unsure.

Product Quality and Sourcing Questions

Q1.  Where are your botanicals sourced?

Our botanicals are largely locally sourced, from trusted growers and suppliers who meet strict quality and purity standards. Whenever possible, we use 100% organic materials for our products.

Q2. Are your products third-party tested?

Yes. Our CBD is third-party tested to verify quality, purity, and consistency.

Q3.  Do your products contain fillers or artificial ingredients?

Our formulations are single- or limited-ingredient, prioritizing simplicity and function while avoiding unnecessary fillers whenever possible.

Q3.Are your botanicals organic?

Some ingredients are organically sourced when available. Organic status may vary by plant and harvest conditions.

General Herbal Support Questions

Q1. Should I consider natural supplements instead of pharmaceuticals?

Natural supplements often work in harmony with the body, supporting underlying systems rather than simply masking symptoms. Herbs like nettle, slippery elm, and dandelion provide nutrients and gentle therapeutic effects with fewer side effects compared to many pharmaceuticals. While prescription medications are necessary for some conditions, natural supplements can be a practical first step for prevention, fundamental healing, body restoration, and long-term wellness.

Q2. What makes your herbal supplements different from others on the market?

Our supplements are crafted in-house at our SuperTrees Botanicals lab using only the highest-quality, all-natural ingredients, from organic sources when possible. Each formula is crafted by our team of naturopathic doctors and is based on traditional herbal wisdom, supported by modern research and clinical trials at Canby Clinic for safety and effectiveness.

Q3. Can I take your herbal supplements daily?

Yes. With the exception of Move Mate (herbal laxative), our herbs are formulated for daily support, and many, like nettle, slippery elm, and dandelion, have been used safely for centuries. We provide dosage and frequency information on each of our supplements. Move Mate is safe for occasional short-term use. In general, we recommend consulting with our clinic or a naturopathic doctor for personalized dosage guidance, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.

Q4. How does nettle help with circulation and allergies?

Nettle is rich in minerals, supports kidney health, promotes circulation, and acts as a natural antihistamine. In our practice, our patients have found it helpful for allergies, rashes, and overall detox support. It’s even considered safe during pregnancy and for dogs!

Q5. What is slippery elm used for?

Slippery elm coats and soothes the digestive tract, helping to alleviate acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, and general mucosal lining health issues. It’s also a key ingredient in our Move Mate formula.

Q6. What does your Move Mate formula do?

Move Mate combines aloe resin, slippery elm, and marshmallow root to support regular bowel movements and soothe the digestive system. While the aloe resin acts as a stimulant, the marshmallow and slippery elm coat the digestive tract, and the two, in tandem, help with digestive support by providing relief and restore balance.

Q7. How does celery seed offer blood pressure support?

In addition to acting as a remedy for joint stiffness, celery seed has been known for centuries as a tonic for the kidneys. The mineral-balancing properties assist with maintaining bone density. Celery seed also acts as a mild diuretic, making it especially useful for managing edema, without the risk of hypotension.

Q8. What’s the difference between your dandelion/parsley blend and pharmaceutical diuretics?

Our dandelion/parsley blend is a gentle, natural diuretic that supports kidney health and reduces water retention without the harsh side effects that can come from synthetic diuretics.

Q9. How does your Immunity Tincture work?

Our Immunity Tincture combines echinacea, elecampane, osha, and Oregon grape root to boost immune resilience, support lung health, and help the body fight off seasonal illness.

Q10. Is hemp balm good for sore muscles and bruises?

Yes. Our hemp balm delivers soothing relief for sore joints, bruises, and everyday aches. It absorbs quickly and can be applied directly to areas of discomfort as needed. It's important to note that many topical CBD products require what's called a loading dose. Learn more about that in our blog!

CBD-Specific Questions

Q1. Will CBD get me high?

No. CBD (cannabidiol) is non-intoxicating. Unlike THC, it will not create a “high” or impair your daily activities. Check out our blog on this topic for more info!

Q2. What is the difference between full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate?
  • Full-spectrum CBD contains CBD plus other beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes, and trace (legal) amounts of THC—working together in what’s called the entourage effect.

  • CBD isolate contains only pure CBD, with no THC or other cannabinoids, making it ideal for those who prefer or require zero THC.

Q3. Is there THC in your CBD products?

Our full-spectrum products may contain trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%, federally legal and non-intoxicating). Our isolates, however, are completely THC-free.

Q4. Which CBD product should I choose—full-spectrum or isolate?

It depends on your goals. Many people prefer full-spectrum for broader benefits and stronger results, while isolate is an excellent choice if you’re sensitive to THC or subject to drug testing.

Q5. Can I use CBD with prescription medications?

CBD may interact with certain medications. We recommend speaking with your healthcare provider before starting CBD, especially if you take prescriptions for blood pressure, blood thinners, or other chronic conditions, including mood stabilizers.

Q6. Are your CBD products tested for safety and quality?

Yes. All of our CBD oils, tinctures, and balms undergo third-party lab testing to ensure purity, potency, and safety.

Q7. How quickly will I feel the effects of CBD?

This varies by person and product. Sublingual tinctures typically take effect within 15–45 minutes, while balms and topicals provide localized relief within minutes of application. Capsules and edibles may take longer (30–90 minutes) to take effect.

Q8. Can CBD help with sleep and stress?

Many people use CBD to support better rest and relaxation. While individual results vary, CBD may help regulate the body’s stress response and promote deeper, more restorative sleep, especially full-spectrum CBD products that leverage the entourage effect.

Q9. Does CBD work for dogs?

The short answer is yes, when sourced responsibly and used correctly, CBD is generally considered safe for dogs. Studies show that dogs tolerate CBD well at recommended doses, with only mild and temporary side effects occasionally reported. There's more on CBD and dogs in our blog!

CBD and Herbal Supplements: Practical & Safety Questions

Q1. Can I take multiple herbal products at the same time?

Yes, many of our products are designed to complement each other. For example, nettle pairs well with dandelion/parsley for kidney support, and slippery elm combines well with our Move Mate formula for digestive care.

Q2. Are your supplements safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Some, such as nettle, are considered safe during pregnancy, but others should be used with caution. Always consult your healthcare provider before beginning any supplement routine while pregnant or nursing.

Q3. How do I know which product is right for me?

Working with your own naturopathic doctor or healthcare team is essential. You can always reach out to the SuperTrees Botanicals team, but we cannot provide medical advice.

Q4. Are botanicals safe to take with my other medications?

Botanicals can interact with certain medications, especially those metabolized by the liver. This doesn’t mean botanicals are unsafe, but it does mean timing, dosage, and herb selection matter. If you take prescription medications, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional before adding new herbal supplements.

Q5. Can you take herbal supplements every day?

Many botanicals are designed for daily use, particularly those intended to support blood pressure, stress response, or immune balance. However, not all herbs are meant for continuous long-term use. A thoughtful approach often involves breaks or cycling. If you have questions, please consult a healthcare professional.

Q6. Are herbal supplements regulated?

Herbal supplements are regulated as dietary supplements in the U.S., which means they are not evaluated the same way as prescription drugs. Reputable brands voluntarily follow quality standards such as third-party testing, ingredient transparency, and Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure safety and consistency.

All SuperTrees Botanicals products adhere to these standards, are third-party tested when possible, are crafted under the oversight of a naturopathic doctor, and have been used in a clinical setting.

Q7. Can botanicals cause side effects?

While botanicals are generally well tolerated, some people may experience mild side effects such as digestive upset or drowsiness, especially when starting a new supplement. Side effects are often related to dose, individual sensitivity, or product quality.

A general rule of thumb for any herbal supplement or botanical is to start slow and monitor. Because we craft single- and limited-ingredient supplements, monitoring for side effects and adjusting dosages is easier.

Q8. Are botanicals safe for children or older adults?

Some botanicals may be appropriate for children or older adults, but needs can vary significantly by age, health status, and formulation. Extra care should be taken with dosage and ingredient selection, and professional guidance is always recommended.

Q9. How do I know if a botanical product is high quality?

High-quality botanical products clearly list ingredients, avoid unnecessary fillers, and provide third-party testing results. Transparency around sourcing, extraction methods, and formulation is a strong indicator of product integrity.

At SuperTrees Botanicals, we use single- or limited-ingredient formulations, avoid fillers, conduct third-party testing where possible, and have oversight by a naturopathic doctor for all of our products. We use supercritical CO2 for our CBD extraction to ensure purity and consistency.

Q10. Can you take too many herbal supplements at once?

Yes. More is not always better. Combining multiple herbal supplements without guidance can increase the risk of unwanted effects or interactions. A simpler, targeted approach is often safer and more effective. Always start slowly and consult a naturopathic doctor or a medical doctor before adding supplements to your regular regimen.

Q11. How long does it take to notice benefits from botanicals?

Certain preparations and dosages of botanicals take effect within minutes to hours.  These herbal preparations have an immediate effect.  Other botanicals are designed to support systems, not symptoms.

For that reason, they typically work gradually, supporting your body and health over time rather than producing immediate effects. Some individuals notice changes within days or weeks, whereas others may require consistent use over a longer period. If you are concerned about your response to botanicals, consult a naturopathic doctor to determine whether and when adjustments are needed
